Day 3 blog

For today's blog, please watch the video on new touch-screen technological applications. Jeff Han shows off a cheap, scalable multi-touch and pressure-sensitive computer screen interface that may spell the end of point-and-click.
http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/jeff_han_demos_his_breakthrough_touchscreen.html

After watching the video, describe some potential uses for this type of screen not mentioned in the demo. Also, describe what you would use the screen for if you owned one.

The future is definitely looking bright because of people like Jeff Han. With this touch-screen computer, we see a device that is intuitive as well as efficient that takes away the confusion of the common user interface. This device could (and most likely will) change the future of accessibility, making the user experience practically worry-free.

The touch screen demoed by Jeff Han could be used to add a a little more depth to a field such as graphic design or it could be utilized as a learning device for people with disabilities. A home builder could use this touch-screen device to design an entire home or preschool children could build their own little dream world with only their hands. The possibilities are truly endless for people of all ages, backgrounds, and technical experience.

If I had Jeff Han's touch-screen computer, I'd use it for a number of things including the work I currently do with designing. It would also be pretty awesome to show off when people come over for dinner, but that would be entirely secondary.

Having a screen like this would be like finger painting! I think that like many people may think, it could be used as more of a novelty item then as a utility. I think that many graphic designers would make great use of this touch screen, and would also be nice to maybe have eventually to just show off.

I also think that it would do great in schools. I think there are many schools that already have some kind of touch screen type tv, but with this being a multitouch display, it makes it more intriging to use. I think that many people that are not used to regular computing, could really use something like this without even needing the computer expertise at all. I think not have a physical thing such as a mouse and keyboard could be very easy to use, and will be the future technology.

I think that many people would be a little more excited to use the computer then they are now.

This is the future. It's like he took the invention by Microsoft, called Surface, and gave it more limbs. Imagine if we had this as our main computer in our homes. It could control so much, as well AS entertain multiple ages. We look at this in aw. Wait till we get a load of what was invented two ago.

Alright, so we have new technology on the Horizon. Currently, I work at Chartway Federal Credit Union and we use Touchscreen monitors for our tellers to process transactions. I know what your thinking, but this is differnt...not really. All of this is based on the same technology. They will be able to better the technology and make it more affordable. There are a lot of reasons these would be beneficial in certain areas. Thats just my opinion, its a step in the right direction.

The initial awe of what touch screen technology can accomplish was taken by Apple when the first generation iPhones were released to market. This didn't stop the flood of a million differentt possibilties in which this can be used. Also, I could not help but think of the movie Minority Report. Its always exciting to see "science fiction" come to life....
The uses stretching across several industries seem limited by our imaginations. What would I do if I owned a touch screen computing device? I'd definitely would use it to learn the finer points of graphic design and I just might be able to create an original logo without the aid of a generator!

Everyone knew that this is what we were doing. Its been protocoled for the past couple of years. THere are many touch screen applications out there. As a CEET, Its noticeable when you are going to a bank, or even lotto. I work at 7-11 and our computers and our lotto are all touch screen applications. That is exactly what a touch screen computer is. its not really any different from what we already see today

Technology has come a long way from just a few years ago. With the introduction of the multi-point touch screen we can now do things with computers that we had only dreamed about before. The applications that this could be used for are virtually limitless. The use of this technology could allow surgeons to see and do things that they could not have done in the past, like being used in conjunction with an MRI. Maybe to prepare for a very difficult surgery, so they can go in and look around see how they will conduct the operation.
The use of this for Military applications would be great. Having the 3D Map would allow for better planning and monitoring of the battlefield. Being able to see the terrain before you go into an area without having to wait for scouts to go out and survey the area.
Photo editing would be made easy by this tech as well. There would be so many different ways you could manipulate photos. Even just the ease of using your desk top would be great. Being able to move files around in just seconds, sorting through files and organizing data would be so easy.
For myself, I would use it for home computing. The not having a mouse and key board would be great. It will be interesting how long it takes them to get this out to the consumer.

The information that Jeff Han was demonstrating was amazing. It was really awesome to see something like that being implemented in this day and time. It allows someone with a visual disability to have a good time with technology. They will be able to have a sense of accomplishment despite their phyiscal limitations.

I'm sure that with some help from Bill Gates or Dell or IBM, it will come to market and be somewhat of a successful marketed item. Maybe it will be implemented in schools for the physically challenged or for rehab for those coming out the armed services or severe accidents. I wouldn't mind being apart of that situations.

Wow this is some awesome technology. I really liked how he could zoom in and out on the world map using his finger tips, its kind of like the iPhone but 10 times the size. It shows that technology changes very rapidly and sometimes its hard to keep up with. I would use soemthing like this play video games like Warcraft which would enhance the feel of the game.

I can see many possible uses for that new touch technology for instance teaching difficult to image subjects (ie genetics, or atomic structure), or as a tool for creative creation (like drawing , or sculpture)...maybe even slight entertainment purposes (like interactive coloring books for handicapped kids.

no need for a keyboard, mouse, or monitor, everything is controlled from the touchscreen. for kids, it means no more writing on the walls, a parents dream. signal line tracing on one screen, for those system diagrams that take up many pages or multi screens in order to display the entire system. no more squenting at a screen, this blows your picture up to the size need in order to see. space born targeting systems aquire targets quickly by pressing the screen and target the target instantly. quick drawing changes to diagrams. i would use it to monitor and control compononets in the home.

The touch-screen computer that Jeff Han and his team have made is great. It seems easier and more efficient than the common computer. It helps make graphic design more fun and better to use. This would be wonderful for little kids so that they can draw and made things on the computer. This program would also be good on the battlefield in wars or training missions for more depth into the land. We use touch-screen now when you go to the ATM machines, but they are not has advanced has Jeff Han’s creation.

This technology is going to be the first of great interfaces to come. this new technology has hundreds of applications. Imagine you and you significant other walking into your favorite restaurant and sitting down at your favorite table, suddenly your table greets you and a video of your waitress asks you to order your drink. After pressing that button for your drink it is transmitted wirelessly via bluetooth and the drink runner will bring it back to you. Imagine hosting an Office get together and shareing important handouts to ten seperate tables connected on a LAN, really the uses for this device are amazing and I can't wait to see what comes out next!

I think this technology is what we are phasing into. You can see small scales of it on the iphone and ipod touch. Products like these are giving people a taste of it. Like the demo showed is what is next and we as people will be more "in touch" with our creations.
It is basically limitless what you can create with this kind of technology. I would use it on more of a multi tasking manner than a creative manner.

With this new technology there are countless ways to change our computing system. I would most definitley be playing with the screen as he did and just enjoying the new things that would be available on this machine.

I believe that this is what the world is coming to and that people are going to get use to it just like people got use to microsoft. We knew that this would eventually happen and that the world is ready for it. There is so much that you can do and it would be exciting to be one of the first to show of this new invention to my friends and get them to also get one. it would not be hard to get use to, because we already use it to a certain extent. Like at the banks, stores and even phones. to me this would be awsome and the world is coming to that anyway.

I was amazed by this demonstration. It is wonderful what we are doing with technology now. This would be perfect for making animated movies. The character is drawn and animated all at the same time. This screen would be make web design simple. How easy it would be to set up a web page with this device. Since this item is apparently more affordable, it could be used in schools to inspire the imagination of small children....no more crayons and paper, no paints....no mess.

I was impressed with the keyboard and the ability to make it small or large. I have small hands and, although, I've been typing for 20 plus years, having to stretch my fingers to reach keys can cause strain to my hands, of course that could just be age as well.

This device could be used for any designing: homes, neighborhoods, roads, airplanes, etc...the list is endless. Imagine being able to design your kitchen or other rooms in your home.

It's amazing how far technology has gone from the first television set to cars running on water. With this new multi-touch screen, I think it will have definite potential in the future. I can see this device being used for surgical procedures when doctors take virtual diagrams of a patient and try to perform a "rough" draft before doing the actual operation. It's really hard to say what else this technology has potential for because it could be used in just about every field. I'm just worried about how power-effient and much resources it may take to create something so useful.

This kind of technology has lots of potential. It's useful in a way that multiple persons can use it at the same time, but can it view more that one application at a time? I liked how the keyboard can change sizes and how you can use more than one finger, I see why they call multi-touch. This technology can be used for designing, engineering, and for fun. It seem like a cool toy to me. I would probably be playing with it for hours. Seems very interesting. I wonder what the internet will look like.

Technology- Ready or not, here it comes. It's simply amazing how fast the world is changing. There is no doubt that there are daily updates in technology. Think about how much the world has changed since the release of computers in the '90's. There is always a need to be filled to make life easier for man, and there is no doubt in my mind that in the future the average hard working Joe will just be Joe.
Jeff Han's creation was amazing. His new found accessibility and interface for the multi-touch pressure sensitive computer display is unique and useful. The possibilites seem endless with this interface. Possibly another use of his creation can be with security systems. Security guards of casinos and banks can use this system to zoom in on perpetrators and narrow to a precise point what had occured in a crime. It would sort of place them in the scene as it happens. For myself, I wouldn't use it for anything to extravagant. It wil definitley minimize my computer time. I would simply point and drag instead of pointing and clicking to open folders etc...I see thid to be a real time saver.
